- Frictional Games desarrolló originalmente Penumbra como una demostración técnica. Luces dinámicas, toda clase de efectos visuales y una novedosa forma de utilizar un potente motor físico, que traduce las acciones point&click de toda la vida al mundo del juego con gran realismo. Creada a partir de un motor gráfico desarrollado por Frictional Games como proyecto de fin de carrera.
