Alemania, 1582. El renombrado artista Theobald Breitsam es hallado muerto en su taller, rodeado de símbolos ocultistas y cientos de plumas negras. Su cuerpo está cubierto de heridas, pero no causadas por ninguna hoja. Por algo que no debería ser posible. El ayuntamiento ya tiene un sospechoso acusado de brujería y quiere un veredicto antes de que cunda el pánico. Conrad es el verdugo de la ciudad. Su trabajo consiste en ejecutar la sentencia y, desde luego, no hacer preguntas. Pero algo anda muy mal. Y cuanto más indaga, menos humano se vuelve este caso.
